Connector Giant – Tyco Electronics

Connector Giant – Tyco Electronics

In 1941, AMP, the predecessor of Tyco Electronics, was founded.

1941~1951: AMP relied on the military orders of World War II for its development from 1941 to ‘45, and its development was slowed down by the shrinkage of the orders after the World War II in the post-war era in the post-war period of ’45.

1952~ 1958: shifted from military to industrial markets (including communications, automotive, home appliances, etc.) and began initial globalisation.

1999: AMP was acquired by Tyco.

2007: divested from Tyco International and listed on the NYSE.

In total, Tyco Electronics is divided into three business segments: Transport, Industrial and Communications.

Giants can’t grow without buying, and Tyco is no exception.

Tyco Electronics has been number one in connector market share since 1980.

In 2023, Tyco Electronics will remain No. 1 in Automotive ($6.951 billion, compared to $2.888 billion for Amphenol and $732 million for Nihon Avionics), and will be virtually unchanged in Defence and Aerospace, but will be second to Amphenol in Communications ($4.645 billion, compared to $1.162 billion for Amphenol, $1.521 billion for Tyco Electronics, and $1.562 billion for Nihon Avionics).(Amphenol has a revenue volume of $4,645 million, Tyco Electronics and JAE $1,162 and $521 million respectively).

However, in the past two years, the AI wave has swept the world, and Amphenol’s market value has surpassed Tyco’s due to the fact that Amphenol occupies more than 70% of the market share in high-speed connectors of 25Gbps and above.
